Aluminum can be cast by any process of metal casting in the investment casting manufacturers, lost foam casting manufacturers and automotive casting manufacturers. It is melting point is low compared to other metals and you can choose to cast aluminum at home.It can be done by die casting, permanent mold casting, sand casting, plaster casting, investment casting or continuous casting.Whichever process you choose, you have to follow a certain order and pay extra attention on safety issues.
Prepare Your Foundry
If your intention is to melt and cast aluminum, you need a foundry to do it.To build it, use available equipment that you can find in a market or specialized store. You will perform only simple metal casting,so you do not need a commercial foundry. You can even build it of old junk.Make the foundry by digging a hole in your yard, building a fire and using billows to fan it.Use a thermostatically controlled electric heat with electric host and gantry for moving the crucible.
Make the mold
To make the mold, first you have to make a pattern. When it is ready, you have to decide which method to use in creating the mold. You can do it in many ways, but using foam or wax are the most common ways. You can decide to press the pattern you made into a box which is filled with green sand. When you remove it, you will have the imprint. Next you need to pour the mold material in this imprint and put it in a furnace.
Melt the Aluminum
In order to melt the aluminum, you need the crucible and a furnace. When you put the crucible in the furnace, it will collect the melted alloy, which will be poured into the model. Create your own crucible, but it has to be of a material that can resist extremely hot temperatures. There are also commercially made crucibles that you can purchase. They are usually made of graphite or silicon carbide.
Safety Measurements
Crucibles are not meant to last forever, so protect yourself while melting metal.Safety gloves, boots and jeans are necessary if you are preparing to cast aluminum.Never touch a working crucible even if you are wearing heat-resistant gloves. There are certain tools that enable the crucible to be safely lifted from the furnace and molten metal to be poured into the mold. These tools differ from crucible to crucible.
